Wondering what cycling in Zeeland is like? As a local who spends a lot of time cycling here, I know the best places to discover.
Whether you’re cycling through historic villages, along quiet country roads, over the dunes, or near the beach, there’s always something to enjoy. It’s this variety that makes cycling in Zeeland so great.
In this guide, I’ve personally created five beautiful routes that take you through some of the best parts of Zeeland.
Good to know: You can start all the routes at any point and complete the full loop from there. I’ve shared the free GPX downloads at the end of this post.
1. Zeeuws-Vlaanderen: Countryside & Coast Loop
The most beautiful loop in West-Zeeuws-Vlaanderen.
First, you’ll cycle through quiet polders, with open countryside views. One of the highlights is the historic town of Groede. The route then continues to Cadzand-Bad, a popular tourist town.
From there, you’ll follow a beautiful route through the dunes back to Breskens, making this one of my favorite routes for cycling in Zeeland.
Highlights:
- Groede
- Countryside and dikes
- Retranchement
- Coast route Cadzand-Bad to Breskens
Not staying in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen? In that case, you can easily start this route by taking the ferry from Vlissingen to Breskens.

2. Veerse Meer Loop: Cycling in Zeeland
This is a really calm and scenic ride. You’ll cycle near the water for most of the ride, with views over the Veerse Meer and a highlight stop in Veere. It’s a great choice if you’re looking to experience a quieter side of cycling in Zeeland.
Want to shorten this loop? You can take the ferry from Veere to Kamperland to significantly shorten this route from 54 km to 20 km.

3. Walcheren Loop: The Countryside & Coast
This cycling route will show you the best of Walcheren.
First, you’ll ride through the countryside and pass small historic villages such as Biggekerke, Meliskerke and Aagtekerke and reach the touristy town of Domburg.
Later, you’ll cycle back to Vlissingen through the dunes and pass a few charming villages such as Westkapelle and Zoutelande with constant views of the sea and beaches, exactly what makes cycling in Zeeland so enjoyable.
Not staying in Walcheren? In that case, you can easily start this route by taking the ferry from Breskens to Vlissingen.

4. Schouwen-Duiveland: The Fight Against the Sea
This route takes you through the northern part of Zeeland, passing through Burgh-Haamstede, Brouwershaven and Zierikzee.
Along the route, you’ll discover a mix of quiet countryside, historic villages, and impressive views of the Oosterscheldekering and Zeelandbrug, away from the busier tourist areas.
Tip: make a detour to Neeltje Jans to cycle across the Oosterscheldekering and, depending on the weather, spot kite surfers making impressive high jumps.

5. Zeeuws-Vlaanderen: Along the Border & Coast
I saved my personal favorite route for the end.
Here, you’ll first cycle through the polders along the border crossing back and forth between the Netherlands and Belgium.
Along the way, you’ll pass border markers (grenspalen), and cycle through the beautiful historic towns of IJzendijke and Aardenburg. The route then takes you through charming, Burgundian Sluis before reaching Cadzand-Bad.
From there, the route continues through the dunes back to Breskens, with great views of the North Sea and Westerschelde. If you’re looking for a varied route for cycling in Zeeland, this route is a great choice.
Not staying in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen? In that case, you can easily start this route by taking the ferry from Breskens to Vlissingen.

Good to know: You can start all the routes at any point and complete the full loop from there.
